The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to approximately 20 million Texas customers - representing 85 percent of the state’s electric load and 75 percent of the Texas land area. As the independent system operator for the region, ERCOT schedules power on an electric grid that connects 38,000 miles of transmission lines and more than 500 generation units. ERCOT also manages financial settlement for the competitive wholesale bulk-power market and administers customer switching for 5.9 million Texans in competitive choice areas.

APPLICATION DEVELOPER II (Web and Data Services)

Summary of Responsibilities
The Applications Developer II will code and program for the Web and Data Services Group. Responsibilities will include development/implementation for the portal, application integration, web enabled applications, public interfaces, and Intranet/Corporate applications.

Essential Job Functions
- Assisting in defining the overall technical development goals of the web team
- Following the implementation and maintenance of a standardized development methodology
- Ensuring quality product delivery by implementing thorough testing techniques
- Working off hours when needed, as well supporting a 24×7 on-call rotation (tier 3)
- Possessing and maintaining technical proficiency in the following key technical areas: Java (J2EE), Struts, SOAP, JSP, JMS, SAX, XML, XSL, XSLT, XHTML, SSL, Ant, CVS, Operating Systems(Solaris, W2K3, Linux Enterprise Server, AIX), RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server), SQL (PL/SQL, TSQL), Application Servers (such as Tomcat and JBoss), Web Servers (Apache Web server or Apache Stronghold, IIS)

Experience and Educational Requirements
- B.S. in Computer Science or 4 year degree or like field
- Experience coding on multiple project
- 4+ years of a strong basic technical background based in development organizations
- 3+ years OOP (C++, Java, Tkl/Tk, etc) / OOD / OOA
- 3+ years direct, hands-on experience with Java (J2EE, JDK 1.3+)
- 3+ years experience in web-based applications and supporting technologies
- 3+ years experience with one of various scripting languages (i.e. JavaScript, Jscript, Perl, Korn-Shell, etc)
- 2+ years experience with Netegrity Site Minder
- 2+ years experience with Apache httpd or Stronghold web server configuration and LDAP(MS Active Directory, Sun iplanet, Sun One Directory Server)
- administration (proxy, reverse-proxy, caching, load-balancing, and clustering)
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Experience working in a team environment

Preferred:
- 2+ years working with an enterprise portal implementation such as Tibco, BEA, PlumTree, SunOne, Oracle, etc.
- Experience implementing and evolving a standard Java Framework (i.e. Struts)
- Experience with any two of the following servers: Tomcat, SunOne, Weblogic, JBoss, JRun.
- 2-3 years experience with XML, XSL, XSLT
- 2-3 years experience with Web Services
- Experience in database development (Oracle strongly preferred)
- Experience dealing with Software Development Lifecycle Processes
- Comfortable in both a UNIX and Windows based environment
