My Top 3

Well well well.. Lots of things have been changing around here lately!

In kinda the right order:

  • My wife Shyla had really bad pneumonia, half of the right lung was full of liquid! I only knew for sure once I laid down in bed beside her and heard the “rattle” .. Got her ass up and called the ambulance within 5 minutes.
  • My sister gave birth to a lovely baby, Dylan, about 2 weeks ago. They are doing pretty well, and my parents are thrilled. Me and my wife hope to have the same thing happen as soon as possible :)
  • I have just about given up all hope in contacting my (other) sister. She and her husband (Mike Bradley) have totally severed communication with me and the rest of my family. I have no clue why this is, but I just would really like to see my nieces and see how my sister is doing. *sigh* .. we have been out of touch for many many years, and they seem not to care.
  • I have had hell with my staph. Working around my infectious disease doc’s schedule and me and Shyla’s has been really hard. I have gone to every appointment though!! I am now (still) on IV antibiotics, this round, Cubicin. This shit is so expensive, I am surprised my insurance pays for it. It is working better than the Vancomycin, but as the same, it’s going slow also. Things are almost cleared up and my ID doc says things are progressing well.
  • I have moved servers over to something with more of everything, to give me growing room and more flexability for the future. We are now rockin with over 5x my transfer quota than before, more RAM and more disk space also. I have installed Ubuntu LTS 8.04 on this server, and it is meeting my expectations as a very good Debian-based distribution for all purposes.

That’s things summarized into a list.

I’ve been playing with my server quite a bit lately, and having lots of fun with it. I recently acquired another IP for my playing, and I have set a few reverse PTR records for them. I managed to setup Postfix with saslauthd and Dovecot, and get them all working together. The web setup currently is Apache2 w/ FastCGI/PHP. I would like to see what I can get done with Lighttpd, but that will be a later-on project.

Shyla is recovering and feeling well. She gets a chest X-ray in a few days to confirm things have all cleared up. She is getting around normally and going more places, which is a really good sign for her recovery. She unfortunately has lost (or the library has) a book though, and it keeps a nice fine tickin up and up every day while they (and her) try to find it.. So she is just grabbing as many books as she can before we can buy the book off next month, haha.

I have about one and a half weeks left for my IV antibiotics then hopefully I can get my PICC out. The thing is more than just annoying :)

Hope this updates a few of you who keep visiting ;)

Will try to post more later.
