Although Unix and Linux can be considered close cousins, trying to find similarities between them and Novell NetWare is not an easy job. Unix/Linux and NetWare systems are very different from each other, so when you’re considering a migration from one to the other, or integrating the two into a heterogeneous network, it requires some diligent planning.
NetWare has been around for many years, and other than ARCnet it is perhaps the oldest PC networking technology still in existence on a wide scale. NetWare, however, has been deployed in large networks that span great geographical distances, as well as in small departmental LANs for many years.
